The sugar beet campaign is now under way. Early indications show that yields won’t exceed the highs of last year and sugar content is certainly down. The lack of warm sun this year hasn’t done the crop any favours. Early days yet.
After a delayed and intermittent harvest it’s almost at an end. Winter barley has been the best crop with spring barley and oilseed rape behind and wheat suffering badly from the poor weather, lacking both quality and quantity. As we get half way through the first week of the delayed harvest of 2012 things are getting busy. The combines have been going well and are getting into the early winter barleys. So far samples are looking good, with no major problems with quantity or quality.
